Alysson Bourque is the author of the multi-award-winning children’s book series, The Alycat Series, based in Louisiana.

Bourque began her career as a teacher after graduating from University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a degree in Elementary Education. She earned a law degree from Southern University Law Center in 2007. After practicing law for six years, it was time to trade in writing trial briefs for writing children’s books and collaborating with non-profits to support philanthropic initiatives such as Foster the Love with First Lady, Lafayette Walk to Defeat ALS, The Family Tree B&N Event, Wild Cat Foundation, and Hayley’s Bracelet fundraiser to benefit Lurie Children’s Hospital, Operation Shower, RainBowie Foundation.

The Alycat Series features six titles: Alycat and the Thursday Dessert Day (2016), Alycat and the Monday Blues (2017), Alycat and the Friendship Friday (2018), Alycat and the Tournament Tuesday (2020), Alycat and the Cattywampus Wednesday (2022), and Alycat and the Sleepover Saturday—the highly anticipated newest book in the series expected to hit shelves nationwide on March 6, 2023, traditionally published by Pelican Publishing. Through relatable storylines and colorful illustrations, the books teach kids about self-confidence, friendship, and problem-solving skills. The books have received glowing reviews from major publications such as Kirkus Reviews, Midwest Book Review, and Booklife Reviews.

One book in 2016 has now turned into six books in a series that has sold more than 20,000 copies, won over 23 awards, has original songs on iTunes and YouTube and has been featured in the Official Grammy’s Swag Bag and Oscar’s Gift Bag, the cover of Story Monsters Ink Magazine, and the New York Times Square billboard. With a grassroots, word-of-mouth business plan, the series. has garnered praise around the world from notable fans like the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York who featured Bourque and her life-size mascot, Alycat, on her popular YouTube channel, Little Red News. In addition to the feature on Little Red News, The Alycat Series was selected for a read-aloud by the Duchess among thousands of books submitted by authors around the globe on her Storytime with Fergie and Friends YouTube show.

Bourque enjoys speaking with children and teachers at school and library visits with the life-size Alycat mascot. She hopes to inspire others to believe in themselves, and their work, and to keep pursuing their dreams.
