The African National Congress (ANC) mourns the passing of AmaXhosa King, His Majesty King Zwelonke Sigcawu.
King Zwelonke Sigcawu has been the king of AmaXhosa since the death of his father, King Xolilizwe Sigcawu, in 2005.
The ANC pays tribute to His Majesty for the contribution he made in the development and upliftment of his community. He played a significant role in strengthening the relationship between traditional authorities and our institutions of constitutional democracy. Through him and many other traditional leaders, we learnt that institutions of traditional leadership can coexist and thrive in a Constitutional democracy.
King Sigcawu leaves a proud legacy for his people. The most fitting tribute that can be paid in honour of his legacy is to proceed along the path he laid – that of commitment to unite and improve the lives of his people.
The ANC sends its heartfelt condolences to King’s family, the AmaXhosa people and CONTRALESA.
May his soul rest in peace.
