Lawrence Hardge has been inventing items since childhood. As a young man growing up in Mississippi, Hardge, like many aspiring inventors, took apart electronic devices to understand how they work. He used the knowledge learned as a child to become a leading inventor and has created some incredibly useful products to fill a void in the marketplace. Hardge now holds more than 120 intellectual prototypes along with numerous patents and trademarks.
As an inventor, Hardge is watching his dreams come true with every invention and product that hits the marketplace. The Founder and Chairman of Hardge Global Manufacturing has seen many of his products presented across the United States on television infomercials. Some of the same products are now available in major retail stores as well, both in the US and internationally.
Hardge has turned his hobby for inventing products into a career. From childhood inventor to entrepreneur, he is living the American dream.
Lawrence, you are quite the jack of all trades: entrepreneur, inventor and author. You went from being a “garage inventor” to “global inventor”. How did you begin your journey from the garage to the world stage as an inventor?
I was always inquisitive as a kid growing up in my hometown of Vicksburg, Mississippi. When the other kids were playing football and baseball, I was more interested in taking things apart in order to discover exactly how it worked.
You grew up in the small town of Vicksburg, Mississippi, as you mentioned, where you began tinkering with items to learn how they worked. Is it difficult to look back and to realize how far you have come as an entrepreneur?
No, as I reflect back on my childhood, I can honestly say that I am proud of the values my family, especially my mother, instilled in me. Those values encouraged me to be the person and the inventor I am today. Back then, I never imagined that I would ever invent anything that would be revolutionary as I have now. As our country strives to go green, I am hopeful that my battery technology will impact the world globally.
You have created a variety of products over the years including Smackout911, Knockout 360, Battery Technology Consulting, Hardge Window Wipe-It, Hardge Tire Foam, and Hardge Seal-It. How did you come up with the concepts for these products and what is the timeframe from idea to selling products to the public?
As you know, there are a multitude of comparable aerosol fire extinguishers currently on the market today. Most of which address only two, possibly, three types of the four basic fire types. Due to my curiosity, I felt that I could possibly invent a chemical compound that would address the four basic types of fires as an all in-one aerosol fire extinguisher. Hence Knockout 360 and Smackout 911 was created. Many of my other products came about as a result of my desire to improve upon what was currently available. For instance, I grew up only knowing of combustible automobile engines. Knowing that a battery was able to store energy… I felt that I would be able to take that technology to a newer level. The Hardge’s Brand, especially my fire extinguishers, have been featured in various infomercials, sold on Amazon and other retailer outlets as well which I am proud to say.
Although Hardge has seen success with a number of inventions, his Knockout 360 fire extinguisher is perhaps the most successful to this point. The advanced fire extinguisher works on a variety of fires from grease to oil to gas to wood. Rather than needing a specific fire extinguisher for a certain fire, the Knockout 360 takes any and all guesswork out of choosing the correct fire extinguisher.
Your Knockout 360 fire extinguisher has received a lot of praise since its launch. How does this product differ from other fire extinguishers?
Knockout 360 fire extinguisher chemical formula simply gets the job done. I am extremely proud of the composition of my formula. The composites of my formula simply tackles the four classes of fires from Class A-D (Class A fires – combustibles such as wood, paper, trash, plastics – Class B – flammable liquids, solvents, oil, gasolina, paints, Class C – electrical, Class D – combustible metals).
Now that we have got your background and passion for inventing established, can you tell us about your company, Hardge Global Manufacturing and how it was founded?
Hardge Global Manufacturing came about as a result of selling my products out the back of my truck, out of my garage in LA and through word of mouth. Once I realized that my products exceeded the industry’s standards, I knew that I had to create an entity that would help me get my products out on the market. With the help of the legendary Johnnie Cochran, I was able to create HGM.
In December 2020, Hardge Global proudly announced its all-new Black Box Technology, which outpaces current electric battery performance by increasing vehicle mileage. While the company is still testing the battery, early signs are positive that the Black Box Technology could revolutionize the electric vehicle arena. It could also improve the world as fewer fossil fuels could be burned.
In December, Hardge Global announced the release of Black Box Technology. The new tech “outpaces current market battery performance by increasing electric vehicle mileage”. Can you tell us about the Back Box Technology and how it will improve vehicle mileage for electric car owners?
HGT’s Black Box Technology has the capability of alleviating “battery anxiety”. Our innovative technology, once installed in an electric powered vehicle, enhances the vehicle’s range per charge. For example, we recently tested a Club Car Golf Cart and installed our technology, which ran for 22.6 continual hours. We are currently testing other vehicles in order to establish each of those vehicles’ baselines. Once we receive the test results, our engineers will evaluate the vehicle’s system integration. Upon completion of our preliminary assessment analysis, we will then decide the type of retrofit required in order to take each vehicle retrofitted with our technology to the next level of enhanced performance.
Lawrence, there is a low number of black individuals in the STEM sector. As a black inventor, how important is it to be a role model for others to enter the STEM sector? Do you foresee more black students and individuals from minority groups in the United States entering into STEM industries in the future?
Science, technology, engineering and mathematics students will play a vital role in our country’s growth. The latest stats indicate that STEM occupations are growing at 17%, whereas other occupations are growing at a rate of 9.8% according to the US Department of Commerce. Certainly, individuals in this sector will contribute heavily to our country’s growth and stability.
You are known as an entrepreneur that gives back to the community. You have “provided scholarships for disadvantaged students and support second chance programs for ex-offenders”. You also support non-profits organizations and charities. Where does your passion to give back come from? Is it important for you to help others?
Growing up in a poor state, I had an opportunity to see first-hand the value and importance of financial support received from others. Over the years, I have made donations and pledged my support to individuals and organizations and I plan to continue to do so. I learned a long time ago that whether it is financial support or non-financial support, any level of support is beneficial. I have made a pledge to myself that I will always continue to provide both financial and non-financial support to organizations in need.
Without letting the cat of the bag, can you tell us about some of the new inventions you are working on and what the public can expect from Hardge Global?
Hardge Global Technology Battery Tech, has the potential to be the most monumental accomplishment. This technology could help preserve our planet.
Hardge has been directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and not just in a business sense. The company owner and founder contracted the virus and is still fighting the symptoms related to it. The good news is that Hardge is working to return to a normal schedule and build on the success of his company.
It is difficult to ignore the COVID-19 pandemic. How has the pandemic impacted Hardge Global and yourself?
The pandemic has impacted the world and has delayed production in many instances across industries due to plant closures. I too have been personally impacted by the virus having contracted it along with double pneumonia recently. Although I have since tested negative , I am still experiencing some symptoms. Slowly I am beginning to resume a somewhat normal schedule.
What is a day in your life like?
A normal day for me is simple. I wake up and I call my mother to check on her and then check on my other family members before I tackle today’s tasks. Family has and will always be first in my life.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
My passion for experiencing new adventures in life.
Can you share two of your favorite quotes with us?
“When one door of happiness closes, another opens, but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.” – Helen Keller
“Those who dare to fail miserably can achieve greatly.” – John F. Kennedy
If you had the power to change just one thing in the world what would it be?
To eliminate hatred.
Hardge’s Black Box Technology has the potential to change the future of automobiles. He has already changed the way some products, such as fire extinguishers, are developed and used. From the garage to being a global inventor, Hardge is living proof that success can be achieved with the desire and ability to grab it with both hands. He once sold his inventions out of the back of a car. Now, Hardge Global Manufacturing sells its products on nationwide infomercials, online and in global retail stores.
