The bottle will have a design that merges The Macallan’s and Bentley Motors’ rich histories, and it will be available for purchase all over the world in the summer of 2023.
A Look at the Macallan Horizon from Above
The worldwide collaboration between The Macallan and Bentley Motors, which was revealed for the first time in July 2021, will lead to the production of things that pay homage to the lengthy and illustrious histories of both companies. It is the first expression of this relationship, and it represents the parties’ devotion to the concepts of creativity, craftsmanship, and originality. The Macallan Horizon is the product of this partnership.
The appearance
The fact that the limited edition whiskey does not have a basis contributes to its singular appearance and serves as a tribute to the industry’s trend toward homogenization. According to the press release, the turn of the case, which is described as being 180 degrees, represents “the mastery of space and time accomplished by The Macallan and Bentley Motors.”
By virtue of its singular appearance and point of view, the Macallan Horizon pays homage to the six pillars that support the distillery. These pillars are what distinguish the brand from the other products on the market. The prototype, which was just recently made public, is an essential component of both companies, and it is constructed from “six different recycled, reused, or ethically sourced materials.”
The Bentley Mulliner grand tourer, which was released earlier this year, made use of recycled copper from the decommissioned curiously small spirit stills from the former distillery of The Macallan, as well as aluminum salvaged from the production process of the British marque, recycled wood, recyclable glass, and locally sourced carbon neutral leather. Additionally, the grand tourer featured aluminum salvaged from the production process of the British marque.
What’s the whiskey like?
One more thing to consider: the Macallan Horizon wouldn’t be so special if it weren’t for its whiskey. Kirsteen Campbell, the Master Whisky Maker at The Macallan, says that a visit to Bentley Motors in Crewe provided the impetus for her creation of the one-of-a-kind flavor profile that was used in this limited-edition partnership. Here, at the spiritual home of the marca, she witnessed, on a first-hand basis, the common commitment to artistic endeavors, artisanal labor, and technological progress.
Collaboration with Bentley
“Our collaboration with Bentley Motors and also the information sharing we have initiated as a result has urged us to look at things somewhat differently,” asserts Jaume Ferras, Global Creative Director for The Macallan, in regard to the Macallan Horizon. Everything, including stills and bottles, in the alcohol sector is presented in a vertical orientation when displayed. Because whiskey must be poured before it can be consumed, we thought about whether or not we could apply a similar arrangement to whiskey after being inspired by the horizontal technique that Bentley Motors use within the automobile industry.
Recycling
Chris Cooke, Head of Product and Lifestyle Design at Bentley, had more to say about the topic: “Our prototype for The Macallan Horizon is truly pioneering in its design and use of materials.” It is a synthesis of The Macallan’s innovative spirit, materials that can be recycled, and the distinctive angles and curves that are characteristic of Bentley vehicles. The way in which light interacts with the dark wood, shining aluminum, and warm copper is extremely spectacular. The design’s shape has made it feasible to virtually think of light as a separate entity, and this has made it possible to do so for the first time. Because it is both visually beautiful and technologically advanced, it serves as a representation of what will come about as a result of our working together.
In the following months, information regarding the price and release date of The Macallan Horizon single malt whiskey will be made available on the websites of both The Macallan and Bentley Motors.
