AdCap Management Inc., a Cleveland-based family office founded by father and son entrepreneurs, Shelly and Joel Adelman, has named Chaya Slain as Chief Investment Officer. Slain will oversee the firm’s investment portfolio with a special focus on alternative investments and lending strategies.
Chaya Slain holds both a Chartered Financial Analyst and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation, and brings a strong background in ultra high net-worth investing and alternative asset classes to AdCap. She spent more than a decade at Parkwood, the investment office for the Mandel family and Mandel Foundation. Over the course of her career, she cultivated an extensive network of relationships with private equity, hedge funds and real estate managers.
Slain has received a number of accolades, including CIO Magazine 40 under 40 in 2014 and NextGen in 2018. Prior to Parkwood, she worked at Goldman Sachs and received a mathematics degree from Columbia University.
“Since founding AdCap last year, I’ve been interested in diversifying my portfolio through less conventional investments,” said Joel Adelman, founder and CEO of AdCap. “Chaya brings a wealth of experience and access to AdCap, and I’m especially excited about her entrepreneurial spirit. Together, we’ll achieve exceptional results.”
Adelman, the former CEO and founder of Advance Partners (purchased by Paychex in 2015), founded AdCap with a mission of helping other businesses succeed. In addition to allocating capital to managers, AdCap will continue to serve as an alternative lender, providing capital to small and mid-sized businesses that face challenges with traditional lenders.
Fortunately, this entrepreneurial approach aligns perfectly with Slain’s investment philosophy.
“I’m excited to partner with the Adelmans for the next stage of my career,” said Slain. “Their approach allows for a creative and independent investment style, as well as being open to some entrepreneurial sources of returns. It’s a tremendous opportunity.”
