John Wise. CEO & Chairman of the Board of Loci, Inc. Sterling, USA

John Wise CEO & Chairman of the Board of Loci, Inc.

John Wise started his professional career in the automotive racing industry. As a mechanic, crew chief and data engineer for some of the top auto racing teams in the United States, Wise turned his love of building mechanical elements into a profession. As a member of a variety of professional racing teams, Wise found one of the biggest challenges to be getting patents for his inventions. After more than a decade in the race industry, Wise took his experience in trying to gain patents and intellectual property, and began Loci.

What is Loci? It is a search tool that will revolutionize the patent process for companies, inventors and anyone looking to secure their intellectual property rights.  Wise’s startup fills a void in the marketplace, as no other company of its nature exists. But Loci wasn’t created overnight. It took several failures until Wise’s team was able to hit on a winner. Wise believes Loci is positioned for commercial success in the near future with its innovative approach.

The busy entrepreneur recently took time out of his schedule to sit down with Totalprestige Magazine to explain Loci and his plans for the future.

John, can you please tell us about the Loci platform?

Loci powers our patent search tool, InnVenn. We created InnVenn to streamline the patent research process, and therefore empower inventors to take the steps necessary to patent their intellectual property. The traditional process is very convoluted and InnVenn is an alternative.

Who can benefit from Loci?

Inventors, small business owners, entrepreneurs, lawyers, you name it. We specialize in ideas here at Loci, so anyone who is coming up with new ways of doing things has a use for the InnVenn platform.

What exactly is InnVenn?

InnVenn is a visual approach to traditional patent research. We use a Venn diagram, which most everyone is familiar with, to categorize keyword searches relevant to your idea. This gives the user a visual breakdown of crowded areas of innovation versus areas where there is room for development.

Can you tell us about your token sale, who participated and when did it take place?

InnVenn will use LOCIcoin for most transactions within the platform. Our token sale wrapped up on December 31st, 2017 and we are incredibly thankful for everyone who participated.

How did Loci Inc. begin and what have been some of the highlights?

I got my start in the automotive racing industry. I was a mechanical engineer for several racing companies. I got to work with some of the brightest minds in the industry.  Surprisingly, that was the easy part. The hard part was jumping through the hoops to get our bright ideas patented.

What have you sacrificed for success?

Success comes from the value and impact for the betterment of human civilization. And that is what I want to do and work towards; so as far as what have I sacrificed and what am I willing to? The answer to that is everything.

What do you have your sights set on next?

World domination (with a grin). But seriously, my next step is focusing on building awareness that we can do macro economics better. That we can genuinely get value out of having ideas and contributions to society. I fundamentally believe that anybody, anywhere in the world regardless of socio-economics has valuable ideas and can make a difference.

What is the most challenging part of your work?

Staying grounded and yet trying to make huge impacts and changes in the world. Staying far enough ahead to make sure it’s possible, yet staying grounded enough to actually follow through.

Were you ever influenced by other entrepreneurs?

Absolutely. Nikolai Tesla and Leonardo da Vinci from an ideation perspective. As for execution, I admire Steve Jobs, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. In particular, I’ve been influenced a lot about the lessons learned by Tesla in regards to making sure that execution is done before disclosure. All of them, innovators, thinkers, leaders,  have had a strong influence on me.

What is a day in your life like?

Days turn into weeks and there is no such thing as a typical day.

What makes you smile?

Moving the goalpost… moving the needle of human civilization.

What scares you?

Missed opportunities.

What is your greatest achievement?

The best is yet to come.

What is your secret talent?

I think I am very good at reading people’s energy, motives, intentions, strategy. I can figure out why someone does what they do because I can cut through the bullshit.

Which historical figure do you most admire?

Leonardo Da Vinci

Do you have any hobbies?

With what time?

What are you never without?

Multiple cell phones and a smile.

Can you tell us two of your favorite quotes?

“There’s not a word yet, for old friends who’ve just met.” – Jim Henson

“When you grow up you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family life, have fun, save a little money. That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. And you can change it, you can influence it… Once you learn that, you’ll never be the same again.” – Steve Jobs

Instinct versus expertise: Which is more important and why?

Instinct: It’s a lot faster.

What advice would you give to anyone starting a new business?

You better be crazy and passionate.
