Shannan Mondor is the author of the famous book How the Hell Did I Get Here. While talking to us during the interview, she describes her work as an emotionally resonant and unfiltered account of one woman’s struggle with addiction and an eventual victory over alcoholism, mental illness, and the destructive cycle of addiction that had plagued her family for generations.
She goes on to describe how the pandemic, the idea of house-bound people around the world and thoughts about her own experiences compelled her to write. The stories from her life put you in the front row of an ordeal that demonstrates the strength, determination, and courage it took for her to decide that she no longer wanted to live this way and to do whatever it took to shield her children from the normalization and influence of addiction in today’s culture.
“The one thing that I have learned is NO ONE and I mean NO ONE will love you and respect you until you love and respect yourself. You need to really get to know who you are, what you want in life and push forward to get it. You alone are responsible for making your life happen whether it be good or bad. Everything comes from within and I know this whole heartedly.“
