Civil Rights movements

Alabama played a significant role in the Civil Rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. The city of Montgomery was the site of the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955, and Birmingham was the site of many protests and acts of civil disobedience. The Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma is also a historic site of the Civil Rights movement, and the Selma-to-Montgomery march of 1965 was a pivotal moment in the fight for voting rights.
