Thomas Turner. CEO of Relentless Beats

Thomas Turner

We discuss this week with Thomas Turner. As the founder of Relentless Beats, Arizona’s leading promoter of electronic and dance music events, Thomas Turner took what was once just a passion for proper house music & built it into a dominating force in the electronic music industry. Beginning in 1996 as a vehicle for showcasing underground dance music, Turner now produces over 400 events a year, booking over 500 artists. With a goal of continued company growth, Turner is branching out into new music and frequently consults on other events across the country. Among his most notable projects are Goldrush Music Festival, PHXLIGHTS, Body Language, DUSK, Decadence AZ, several concert series featuring some of the globe’s biggest acts, the house music sub-brand- RBDeep, and partnerships with Universatile Music, Psyko Steve Presents, DUSK, and more.

Thomas, can you start by telling us about Relentless Beats and the company’s creation?

Relentless Beats was created out of my passion for house music in the early 90s. I began throwing my own parties in Arizona, building relationships within the local community and with talent alike. Now Relentless Beats holds over 500 nightclub events and concerts per year, with 5+ multi-day music festivals.

You are the force behind this year’s Super Bowl entertainment. How did you get involved with the Super Bowl?

We have established ourselves as entertainment industry leaders in the market, so when our partners in the valley are looking to fill their rooms with the hottest acts, they look to us. We’ve been able to help in the production and promotion of over 25 different events in the valley Super Bowl week.

What can football fans expect from Super Bowl weekend’s entertainment this year, and how will it be different from years past?

We are making sure that everyone around the valley has a party that they can go to. In Old Town Scottsdale we have G-Eazy, Rick Ross, Cardi B. and Ludacris, at W Scottsdale, Tyga, Alesso, Kaskade, Dillon Francis and more at Cake and Maya. At Talking Stick Resort you can see Shaq, Diplo, Snoop Dogg, 21 Savage, Lil Jon, Machine Gun Kelly, The Chainsmokers and more. In Tempe you can catch Diplo, Guy Gerber, Ghastly, and more. And at Westgate, directly across from the stadium you can catch Marshmello, NGHTMRE, Tim McGraw, Pauly D, Guy Fieri, Diplo, Locash & more. Phoenix will come alive more so than ever before.

The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event in the United States. How can Relentless Beats top the weekend event?

It’s tough to top the Super Bowl, but for lovers of entertainment and celebrity across the country, we have certainly primed the city to become their playground. There will be amazing performances, top notch VIP services, red carpets, celebrities, and even carnival rides at one of the events. We aim to impress locals and jet-setters alike with what we have curated here in the valley.

Thomas, you began showcasing underground dance music in 1996 in Arizona. How has promoting music changed over the last two decades?

Early on there was a lot of word of mouth promotion to get people to events, but since the explosion of social media it is much easier to reach your audience and build community around events. What makes Relentless Beats special is the community we have built around the events, and the relationships that we have built with fans online and at the shows.

Tell us about some of the other big shows Relentless Beats promotes or has promoted before?

Our largest shows each year are Goldrush Music Festival and Decadence Arizona, both of which are multi-day music festivals with the biggest DJs from around the planet. Goldrush is unique in its wild west theme, and Decadence is the most high profile and boisterous event we throw each year. We also have Body Language which is a passion project for me as it houses the largest underground DJs from all corners of the world.

How does Relentless Beats provide a platform for up-and-coming acts to get attention?

We have an amazing community of local DJs in Arizona who we are able to support by having them open up for larger DJs we book in our clubs, giving them a larger audience than they might otherwise have. We also are big supporters of regional acts around the country and the world, giving them the best looks we can with larger acts who match their style.

After Super Bowl weekend, what do you have planned for Relentless Beats for the remainder of 2023?

We have a large Spring concert series on a massive stage this April which will feature acts like Martin Garrix, Subtronics, Ganja White Night, among others to be announced. We will also have our 2023 editions of Body Language, Goldrush, and Decadence Arizona later in the year.

How did Relentless Beats create the entertainment lineup for Super Bowl weekend? What were some of the parameters for picking music acts?

Key relationships, feedback from our partners, & an overall plan we have been working on for years to execute this Big Game Wknds entertainment at the highest level all over the valley.   We worked with our partners to pick the perfect entertainment for each space we are activating.

How have you had to adapt to the changing music scene over the years?

I’ve been lucky to work with people who share the same passion as I do for growing Relentless Beats and servicing our partners, whether it be venues or artists. Their dedication helps us keep our finger on the pulse of what our fans want to see.  As a result, we are always moving forward and I’m very proud of our team.

Thomas, how is a day in your life?

I am an early riser and I’m always thinking about Relentless Beats from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep. However, most mornings I make breakfast for my children and take them to school and often work from home so that I can be there when they get home.  I would say I spend an average of 10 hours on the phone a day. While it’s a lot of work I could tell you I really don’t work a day in my life because it has been the pleasure of my life to serve people’s entertainment interests and garner feedback of what an impact it makes on their lives.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

My father’s parents were born in Mexico, and he was adopted at birth by a man named Thomas Turner so in fact, my bloodline is Hispanic / Latino.

Do you have a favorite quote?

Yes, “Don’t wait to start living we are already dying and it is what it is”.

If you had the power to change just one thing in the world, what would it be?

If I could do one thing for the world, it would be to eliminate all fear.
