COVER STORY

Featuring Sharifah Hardie

Sharifah Hardie created SupportMyBlackBusiness.org to help Black entrepreneurs raise funds to operate a successful business. As she mentioned in the recent discussion we had with her, it is a GoFundMe-type crowdfunding platform created to help Black-owned businesses. She further discussed with us, how she got the idea of creating such a funding platform. As many Black entrepreneurs and business owners did not receive absolutely any funding during COVID and a global pandemic, she saw the need for a way for business owners to survive and grow.

Black business owners face a lot of challenges. They may not have access to capital.  They may lack mentorship and the knowledge required to be successful. When you look at business ownership, home ownership, education, generational wealth, etc, you will see that the Black community is at the bottom of these lists. Something must be done to help the Black community and FAST!

I built my first website in 1994. I wanted to be a Stay-at-Home mom, and I knew then that the Internet was the way to go. I launched my first podcast, Ask Sharifah Radio in 2009. I became the President of the Long Beach Chapter of the Southern California Black Chamber of Commerce in 2021 and have made it my mission in life to help small businesses grow.
